I know that some of you have heard about Google Voice, but it’s new to me. I received my email tonight inviting me into the trial program. With in a few minutes of receiving the invitation I had setup my Google Voice phone number and linked it to my BlackBerry Storm mobile phone. I then installed the Google Voice app for the Blackberry, and setup my voice mail. I have tested out a few of the many features. I called my Google Voice number from my house and left a message and it worked out fine. Other features I have tried out are call screening. When you receive a call from an unknown caller, they are prompted to record their name. Once the call is connected you have the option to accept the call, send the call to voice mail, listen in on the caller leaving their message, or take the call and have it recorded. Once a caller has left a message you will get an email or SMS message, or both. Their message is transcribed into text. It’s not perfect, but its pretty close. You can then read the message. There’s also a play message link in the message so you don’t have to call in to listen to the message. Another feature that I tried is to embed a Google Voice “click to call” button on my webpage so people can leave me voice mail messages from my website. So try it out and leave me a voice mail.
